“When given a choice between being right and being kind, chose kind.” This is a direct quote from Wonder by R.J. Palacio… the ‘September Precept’. You might like to share with your parents, what meaning this has for you.
This afternoon we viewed a short video clip…Danny Kaye singing
“The Ugly Duckling”. (And no…this time he wasn’t playing the role of a court jester.)
I’d like to know what hidden message you received from this short clip? What connections can you make between this and our class novel Wonder?
Our Class text this term is “Wonder” by R J Palacio. I’m guessing many of you are not familiar with this novel.
It explores a number of issues …friendship, disability… dealing with challenges and acceptance. In class we will spend time exploring these concepts.
To wonder is to dream…I wonder what Auggie’s dream would be?
Below is one review posted on the ‘Inside A Dog’ website. This site contains reviews posted by children for children. By the way…take time to explore this site. Do you have what it takes to write a book review?
As our London leg of the Cyber Race draws to a close, the question on almost everyone’s lips is ‘Where to next?’.
Well, as you know, I can’t give too much away. It may give some of you an unfair advantage.
However, because I’m such a caring teacher, I can’t resist giving you a helping hand.
Hint#1…It will be handy if you could become fluent in a language other than English. If not, a language translator will come in very handy.
Hint#2… If you can learn where this image can be found, it might steer you in the right direction. Or am I being cruel and throwing you off the scent?
Sydney Leg Team Challenge
Food Glorious Food
For this challenge you need do the following preparation:
- access the video in the ‘To Collect’ folder. This will provide you with the tune you need to learn. You will need to listen to this video a number of times
- collect the word doc with the lyrics that match the video clip.
You will need to use both of these resources to assist you with your team rehearsal.
Remember…the group that records the most entertaining rendition of this song wins a tour voucher that can be ‘cashed in’ during any of the remaining Amazing Race legs.
I’m guessing that this might be the most challenging aspect of the competition so far.
I’d like you to EXPLAIN how your team PREPARED for this CHALLENGE.
Do you know where your plastic bag goes after you throw it away?
Do you know what happens to your plastic drink bottle when you’re finished with it?
At school for the month of July (and a little bit of August too!) are participating in Plastic Free July. Across the next few weeks, our grade will be participating in some plastic awareness activities.
The aim of Plastic Free July is to limit our use of single use plastics, like plastic bags, plastic packaging, plastic straws and plastic bottles. At school we are hoping to have a ‘nude food’ lunch day where we don’t have any single use plastic at all in our lunch boxes for a day.
Your family can take up the challenge if they like- you can try being plastic free for a week, a month or even a whole year.
This is the official Plastic Free July website: http://www.plasticfreejuly.org/
The website has lots of great ideas for how you can reduce the amount of plastic in your day to day lives.
Where in the world? That is the question that will be answered on Monday when we start the first leg of the NGPS Amazing Cyber Race.
Today you had the opportunity to travel to Echuca and practise some of the skills you will need for this inquiry.
Well done to Emma and Rebecca, Joseph and Angus and Jess and Georgia who finished in first, second and third place.
I’d like to know…
What was the most challenging part of this activity today and why?
What was something you learnt in relation to using websites?
How successful were you and your partner at working together?
On Monday your team heads off to a mystery location….GOOD LUCK!
And for another mystery… where will this door take you?
The Secret Door is presented by Safestyle UK
I’m sure all of you are extremely relieved that your learning presentations are over and done with ( well, for most of you at least).
Here is my feedback …I was extremely impressed with the quality of the scripts. It was obvious that you had listened to and followed the criteria for this task. It was obvious that the greater majority of you had taken the time to rehearse. This meant that you were less reliant upon your script or cue cards.
I look forward to reading the reflections about your presentation on your blogs.
And once again,
